All of us have used vacuum cleaners at some point in our lives. But it is “us” who guide the machine. After all, only we can see which patches are dirty and require better cleaning, isn’t it?
Rather, I was dismayed to see that the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner first navigates the area to be cleaned and then goes about it in a diligent manner! Even I do not do this…….it made me feel so……inadequate!
It maps the place and saves it. So I can decide if I want it to clean only my kitchen or my closet. Once done, it gets back to its dock.
The LIDAR tower on top sees everything around. It will even decipher which objects it can go under and which it cannot. This is a simple button that will go in once it realises that the vacuum cleaner cannot go under any specific object.
Spare My Furniture, Please
No matter how hard I try, my vacuum cleaner always hits against the edges of sofas, walls, and everything else in its way. And now this robotic cleaner was going to do the same.
But I was not prepared for this pleasant surprise. This robotic vacuum cleaner can skilfully manoeuvre its way around furniture.
It is equipped with anti-collision sensors. They emit infrared-rays to detect obstacles. In such a case, it slows down to touch that surface in a gentle manner. This means that there will be no more scratches on my furniture!
Now All My Rooms Get Cleaned
Here I would like to discuss a special feature of the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner. It can navigate obstacles that are up to two cm in height. This means that it can move to any other room or space easily if it falls within that threshold. I do not have to carry it from one place to another. This also means that it would not be falling off the stairs and damaging itself even when I am not around.
Do note here that this threshold decreases once a water tank is attached to it.
A Complete Cleaning System
Like anyone else, I look for perfect cleaning all the time. The Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner has a synchronised way to sweep and mop at one go. Once the sweeping is done, the wet mop gets to work in a way that leaves no watermarks anywhere. What I get is spotless and shiny surface.

I have set it up on Balanced mode, six days a week barring Sundays. That is the day when I am in the deep cleaning mood. Hence I have set it up on Max suction for that day.
There is ample versatility here. I can set it up to clean a specific room on a particular day. Or else, I can make it clean different areas at different times during the day so that my routine does not get disturbed. As an example, I like to get my kitchen cleaned up after each meal. Ease of Use
Each one of us is busy. And the last thing we want is to spend our time learning how to operate a vacuum cleaner. Yes, I did have to download the Mi Home app and connect the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner to the network. But the entire process took only a few minutes.
I am not an avid reader. Besides, who wants to read instruction manuals anyway? But I was impressed with the easy language used in this manual. In fact, I went through the entire manual in one sitting.
This is a Chinese manual with translation in English. Hence, I was a bit apprehensive about reading operating instructions in broken English. But this instruction manual was a pleasant surprise. It is easy to read with hardly any language errors.
The app has a lot of features too. In fact, I felt that they were trying to satisfy each and every user of their device. I mean, the kind of configurations available in device settings were simply endless. And I could change these settings as often as I wanted.
I find the zone cleaning option really handy. I can decide which zones require more cleaning and which require lower levels of cleaning. This meant that in one session, the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner would clean my kitchen twice and the area next to my bed thrice, while cleaning the rest of the areas only once.
Actually, cleaning is a complex exercise. I was always averse about any robotic vacuum cleaner understanding its nuances. But the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner has managed these complexities quite well till now. An example here would be the magnetic virtual barriers that I have set around the pet tables holding my delicate glassware. This cleaner respects these barriers very well.
Better Cleaning
I really do not know how the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner manages to clean the corners so well. After all, this has always been a pain area for all the vacuum cleaner owners. Somehow its manufacturers realised that making it go too near the walls will only hamper the movement of its brushes, making them stop eventually. This is why the Roborock SS does not go too near the walls. Rather, its brushes tend to move vigorously as they near the corners, pushing the dust towards the cleaner. This is due to the fact that the brushes move in small arcs and not in a straight line.
I can see intelligence incorporated while designing the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner as it is able to detect clogs and obstacles in its way. In case of toys and socks lying in its route, this device tends to move back in order to avoid them. We are well aware of the mess created once any foreign object gets sucked into a vacuum cleaner and chokes it. In fact, the Roborock SS vacuum cleaner can suck in pieces upto 2-3 inches in size without getting clogged.
I do not know how this device has been designed, but it is able to fill up its dustbag in an efficient manner. This means that the dustbag fills up completely, including the sides, without any external intervention. This translates into fewer trips to empty the dustbag, meaning lesser work for me.
Their Mi app is quite easy too. It has a feature to help in locating the vacuum cleaner in case it gets lost. While the cleaning is going on, this app continues to play pleasant music. You can stop this music if you want by pushing a button. And there is a volume control option too!
Using the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner Efficiently
This is an automatic device. Once it is connected to the W-Fi and setup through the Mi app, it will work on its own and come back to its dock. But I am never comfortable about giving so much independence to any machine.
This is why I like to use the remote control that comes with the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner.
There are four vacuuming modes here, namely
- Balanced
- Turbo
- Quiet
- Max
But the one mode that I really like is the “Do Not Disturb” mode. Here the machine does not vacuum or make any kind of sound. This is an essential item on my “To do” list when I am entertaining guests at home.
Long battery life
The Roborock S5 vacuum cleaner can clean an average-sized house efficiently without having to recharge as it has a 5,200 mAh battery. Besides, it has amazing mapping ability that allows it to work faster and better.
In conclusion…
The Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner has earned its place as my third vacuum cleaner, and it’s no exaggeration to say that it ranks among the finest products in my possession. While perfection may elude it, its remarkable performance overshadows any minor inconveniences. Until a more advanced robotic vacuum cleaner graces the market, I’ll remain steadfast in my allegiance to this exceptional device.
